Registered in Ipswich on 21 December 1951, this 1952 model Javelin ‘PD’ Standard is actually a very rare model as the majority of later Javelins sold were De Luxe editions.

The car has been the subject of a meticulous restoration and presents to a very high standard indeed with extremely good black paintwork.

The body is in fantastic condition with all the doors opening and closing nicely with even shut lines.

Underneath the car is just as good as on top and is surely one of the finest Javelins available today.

The interior is also in excellent condition and it is pleasing to see that as much original material as possible has been retained. Being a Standard model our Javelin features a painted metal dashboard and the chrome rimmed instruments were new for the 1952 models. Being a later model, hydraulic brakes are fitted all round.

The brightwork has all been re-plated to a high standard. New tyres and carpets have been fitted and the car has been rewired with a new loom of the correct type.

There are receipts in the file for restoration work carried out by Chisbon Restorations amounting to £13,000 for repairs to the structure of the car and for fettling the car post reassembly.

There are one or two finishing touches required as sadly the last owner died before everything was finally finished. The front bumper has been re-chromed but we are waiting for the over riders and mounting bracket. Also the locks for the boot and glove box are presently missing.

The accompanying file contains a number of receipts and old MoT certificates as well as original illustrated parts book and price list, advertising brochure and some magazine articles.

Designed by Gerald Palmer, the Javelin was an advanced design with smooth flat flour engine, rack and pinion steering and torsion bar suspension. Bench seats and a four speed column change allowed for six people to be carried in comfort. The Javelin could be described as the English equivalent of the Lancia Aprilia as the two cars are so similar in concept and performance. Javelins achieved many competition successes including a class win in the 1949 Spa 24 Hours.

Our test drive proved a revelation; the Javelin possesses the finest ride of any car I’ve driven and floats over bumps. The steering and handling are also first class and the hydraulic brakes pull the car up square. The flat four engine is willing and likes to rev making the whole package utterly delightful.

Javelins have an enthusiastic following and are well supported by the Jowett Car Club.

We will happily take an interesting vehicle in part exchange.
