1947 Ferguson TE tractor in good working condition.

Designed in 1938 and initially intended to be produced by the Ford Motor Company it was finally introduced in 1946 and built by the Standard Motor Company of Coventry. The Ferguson was initially fitted with the widely used American Continental Z120 petrol engine before sharing the two litre wet liner engine fitted to the Vanguard car. The Little Grey Fergie, as it became affectionately known, revolutionised tractor design. Distinguished by light weight, small size, manoeuvrability and versatility, the TE20’s great advance was Harry Ferguson’s hydraulic three-point hitch system which quickly became an international standard for tractors of all makes and sizes and has remained so to this day. The Fergie played a large part in introducing widespread mechanised agriculture and in many parts of the world the TE20 was the first tractor to be affordable to the average farmer being small and light enough to replace the draft horse and manual labour and many TE20s remain in regular use in farming today. They are also highly collectable and are treasured by enthusiasts.

The Fergie remained in production until 1956 so this 1947 example is quite an early one and is therefore fitted with a Continental Z120 engine. Restored at some point in its past, our Fergie is in good working condition and benefits from new tyres and a new drawbar at the rear.

The 2 litre engine runs on petrol and starts readily. The clutch, gears and brakes all work correctly and we are told the hydraulic lifting mechanism also works correctly.
