An excellent example of the Rover Twelve Tourer, one of only 200 made by Rover and principally for export.

This car, chassis number 115, is one of 100 survivors making it a very rare motor car indeed and one of the most desirable Rover models. It was first registered on June 1st 1948 with the mark EDW 807, which was later changed to ASN 300. That was taken off the car in 1975, according to the buff RF60 log book on file and the present mark was issued. It retains what we believe is the original colour scheme of cream with red interior.

Today the cream paintwork is in very good order as is the red weather equipment which includes a tonneau cover and sidescreens. The matching red interior is also in very good condition as are the red carpets.

Like all four cylinder Rovers the engine starts readily and settles down to a quiet idle showing correct oil pressure. On the road the performance is lively – the Twelve has a reputation for being a good performer – while the ride is excellent and the Girling mechanical brakes reassuringly effective, making it a most useful touring car.

The gearbox has a lovely, precise mechanical feel and features a button to unlock reverse which is a nice feature. The famous Rover freewheel is of course fitted and all the instruments work.

There are some discreet updates for modern day driving such as direction indicators (in addition to the original semaphores which still work) and an electric fan.

The engine was fully rebuilt with new main and big end bearings by Amac Engineering of Northallerton in 2016 and has covered just over 2,000 miles since.

There are lots of invoices on file plus an original parts book and Instruction Manual. There is also a Pitman Book of The Rover, a Service Record and the aforementioned buff log book.

The Rover is clearly a very high quality car and everything about it has that feel. There is a complete tool kit in a sliding drawer under the dashboard which is thoughtfully accessible.

The hood is fully disappearing and sits under the cover behind the rear seat along with the side screens.

Under the bonnet everything is well presented and it is clear that the Rover has been lovingly maintained.

With few survivors, Twelve HP Tourers seldom come onto the market and so this is a rare opportunity to obtain an exceedingly good example of one of the most desirable and collectable Rover models.

A video of the car can be viewed on the St Andrews Autos YouTube channel.
